03 / Analyze · Robustness Lab

Challenge the fixation method.

Iriscope compares stored fixation methods and makes their impact on eye-movement events and downstream metrics visible — as a methodological robustness check, not an inferential result.

Iriscope Robustness Lab with a four-by-four event-agreement matrix comparing IDT, IDT robust, IVT and IVT robust on the same recorded case.
Same recording, four stored detection methods. The event-agreement matrix shows where their fixation segmentation agrees and differs.

The capability

What you can inspect and control.

Use this workflow for the part of the research question it addresses.

01

Stored methods only

Compare fixation sources that were actually calculated and stored in the project.

02

Event agreement

Inspect optimal event matching, temporal overlap, count and duration similarity.

03

Result stability

See whether counts, durations, AOI dwell and a selected metric stay stable.

04

Provenance-aware

Exclude cases with mismatched input signatures rather than hiding the difference.

In the application

A workflow you can follow.

Keep the relevant material, definitions and review decisions connected at each step.

Iriscope Robustness Lab comparing fixation counts, mean and total fixation durations and AOI dwell across four methods for one selected case.
Method sensitivity in one selected case: compare counts, durations and AOI dwell. The displayed score is descriptive.
  1. Select one or more stimuli, participants and already stored fixation methods.
  2. Choose the event-agreement perspective: optimal F1 matching, temporal Jaccard, count or duration similarity.
  3. Inspect downstream stability for fixation count, mean and total duration, AOI dwell and an optional metric handed over from Metric Inspector.
  4. Review comparable cases, exclusions and the saved robustness report before interpreting the result.

Method context

Keep the scope of the result visible.

The relevant settings, prerequisites and interpretation stay attached to the workflow.

Method settings, scope and interpretation

A robustness score is a guide, not a statistical verdict.
The combined score is explicitly descriptive. It combines event agreement with stability across selected outcomes so researchers can investigate method sensitivity; it does not replace an inferential analysis or turn algorithms into ground truth.
